1 Where do we get this data from?
2 This number (13.76 billion metric tons) includes all emissions (Scopes 1, 2, & 3) and is only meant to give an idea of the breadth that our data covers. It is not meant to be interpreted as the precise amount of CO2e that these companies cumulatively pollute. Scope 3 emissions are not strictly aggregatable across companies because of large inconsistencies in how companies report Scope 3 and because Scope 3, by definition, can be double counted across multiple companies . Scopes 1 and 2 can still be aggregated across companies: Excluding Scope 3 emissions, the public companies we have self-reported data for cumulatively emit 1.75 billion metric tons of CO2e every year from direct emissions or energy purchase.
